Discussion on Brazing of diamond blade


Due to the high chemical stability of diamond blade, it is difficult to complete welding due to chemical reaction with other metals. Therefore, how to reliably complete the solid connection between diamond blade and metal has become a technical difficulty in diamond tool manufacturing industry and a research topic to be dealt with urgently. It is very difficult to directly weld diamond blade by brazing method, which is also a problem of great concern to the public

It is very difficult to directly weld diamond blade by brazing method, which is also a problem of great concern to the public


To complete the brazing requirements of diamond blade, the following problems shall be solved:


(1) wettability: when brazing, the solder must be wetted to ensure that there is no defect in the blade at the welding position. Because the surface of diamond can be very high and the wettability is poor, finding the solder with good wettability on the surface of diamond and metal matrix is the key to the success of brazing


(2) bonding performance: the solder should not only have good wettability, but also have chemical reaction with the data to be welded to form chemical bond connection, so as to complete the welding with sufficient bonding force


(3) residual stress: the difference between the thermal shrinkage coefficient of diamond and metal is nearly ten times, which will form a large residual stress in the cooling process after welding, thus affecting the welding strength and damaging the diamond


(4) diamond corrosion: the diamond will be oxidized or the round blade will be inked under high temperature. Some metals also have corrosion effect on the diamond. Therefore, it is necessary to select suitable working environment and brazing filler metal to reduce the corrosion of the diamond to the lowest level
